Restraints

Why do you run? What do you fear?

You stay locked away, you’re alone here.

Still you’re uneasy, still you quake.

Close your eyes but remain awake.

It’s not them, you see. But is it you?

Is this who you wish to be?

What do you dream of? Tell me what you seek?

Your deepest desires and secret beliefs.

Why do you hide? Why do you cry?

Who convinced you of those lies?

The ones where you can’t. The ones where you shouldn’t.

Told only because they wouldn’t.

Belief is a tricky thing, in a world as our own.

So much is possible yet goes unknown.

Unexperienced, underappreciated.

Regrets gifted to those who waited.

Permission is overrated. Your existence understated.

They talk of purpose, they force pressure.

But pleasure is not to be measured.

You were born free. Made with love.

When did that stop being enough?

Who told you to prove your worth?

To earn respect. To bow down and forget all that.

Stand up and remember what you’re made of.

Rise high and chase what they’re afraid of.

Let them hear you roar. Make them see your flame.

The world may never be the same.

But don’t do it for them. Let them handle their own.

You deserve you, Not what you’ve outgrown.

Erase those old stories, replace them with hopes.

Lay cracks in those shackles, they're no way to cope.

You've restrained yourself too long, my dear.

Open that cage, fly far away from here.

Fill the skies with your colors inside,

Now you live your dreams day and night.
